Hotel β Mandara Hut
Register at the Kilimanjaro National Park gate, then hike through pristine rainforest. A worthwhile detour to Maundi Crater reveals sweeping views north into Kenya. Colobus monkeys and lobelias are common sights.

Mandara Hut β Horombo Hut
Leave the rainforest and climb through open moorland. Views of Mawenzi and Kibo's summit dome are extraordinary. Giant lobelias and grounsels line the path. First altitude effects may appear here.

Horombo Hut β Kibo Hut
Cross the lunar saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Vegetation disappears into bare volcanic rock as you enter the alpine desert zone. Arrive at Kibo Hut for an early dinner and critical rest before a midnight wake-up.

Kibo Hut β Uhuru Peak β Horombo Hut
A midnight start up steep scree to Gilman's Point on the crater rim, then a final push along the rim to Uhuru Peak β the highest point in Africa. Descend all the way back to Horombo Hut for the night.

Horombo Hut β Marangu Gate β Hotel
A long but steady descent through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Summit certificates are issued here. Vehicle transfer back to Moshi.
