Rwanda's gorilla trekking is a premium experience with costs to match. The $1,500 permit is the most expensive in Africa, but Rwanda offers excellent infrastructure, easy access, and luxury accommodation options. Understanding the full cost breakdown helps you plan your budget.

Gorilla Permit Cost
Permit Price: $1,500 per person per trek. This is the official price set by the Rwanda Development Board and is non-negotiable.
What's Included: The permit includes one hour with the gorillas, park entry fees, and ranger/guide services. It does not include transport, accommodation, or other meals.
Booking: Permits must be booked well in advance, especially during peak seasons (June-September and December-February). We handle permit booking as part of safari planning.
Accommodation Costs
Luxury Lodges ($1,000-2,000/night): Singita Kwitonda, One&Only Gorilla's Nest, Bisate Lodge. Ultra-luxury with exceptional service and gorilla-focused experiences.
Mid-Range ($300-600/night): Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, Virunga Lodge, Five Volcanoes Lodge. Comfortable lodges with good service and views.
Budget ($100-200/night): Basic guesthouses and hotels in Musanze or Kigali. Most budget travelers stay in town and drive to the park daily.
Transport Costs
Private Transfer: $200-400 per day for a private vehicle and driver from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park and back.
Flights: Regional flights to Kigali vary by origin. Many travelers fly into Kigali International Airport, which is well-connected to major African and European hubs.

3-Day Luxury Safari: $5,000-7,000 per person. Includes 2 nights luxury lodge, 1 gorilla permit, private transfers, and most meals.
3-Day Mid-Range Safari: $2,500-3,500 per person. Includes 2 nights mid-range lodge, 1 gorilla permit, transfers, and most meals.
3-Day Budget Safari: $1,800-2,200 per person. Includes budget accommodation, 1 gorilla permit, shared transfers, and some meals.
