Essential Equipment
Camera body: DSLR or mirrorless with good autofocus and burst rate. Full-frame sensors offer better low-light performance.
Lenses: Telephoto zoom (70-200mm, 100-400mm) for wildlife, wide-angle (16-35mm) for landscapes, and a mid-range zoom (24-70mm) for versatility.
Accessories: Extra batteries, memory cards (bring more than you think), bean bag or window mount for vehicle stability, and a headlamp for early morning setups.
Camera Settings
Shutter speed: Fast shutter speeds (1/1000 or faster) freeze action, especially for moving wildlife. Slower speeds (1/500) work for stationary animals.
Aperture: Wide apertures (f/2.8-f/4) blur backgrounds for subject isolation. Narrower apertures (f/8-f/11) keep more in focus for landscapes.
ISO: Use the lowest ISO possible for quality, but don't hesitate to increase it for challenging light. Modern cameras handle high ISO well.
Best Photography Locations
Serengeti: Endless wildlife opportunities, especially during migration. Open savannas provide clean backgrounds. Golden hour light is spectacular.
Ngorongoro Crater: Incredible wildlife density with dramatic crater walls as backdrop. Early morning light creates stunning atmosphere.
Tarangire: Baobab trees and elephant herds create iconic compositions. Dry season offers dramatic dust and golden light.
Photography Tips
Patience: The best images come to those who wait. Spend time with subjects rather than chasing every sighting.
Light: Golden hour (first and last hour of daylight) provides the most beautiful light. Midday light is harsh but can work for certain subjects.
Composition: Consider backgrounds, rule of thirds, and negative space. Don't just focus on the subject — consider the entire frame.
