Tanzania hosts one of Africa's most diverse wildlife populations, with over 400 mammal species and 1,100 bird species. From the iconic Big Five to rare endemics, Tanzania offers incredible wildlife viewing across its national parks and reserves.

The Big Five
Lions: Found throughout Tanzania, with excellent populations in Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Best seen during early morning and late afternoon game drives.
Leopards: Elusive but present in most parks. Serengeti's Seronera area and Lake Manyara offer good viewing. Tree-climbing leopards are a special sight.
Elephants: Abundant in Tarangire, Serengeti, and Selous. Tarangire's dry season herds are spectacular. Social behavior makes for fascinating observations.
Rhinos: Rare but visible in Ngorongoro Crater. Mkomazi has a rhino sanctuary. Seeing these endangered animals is a privilege.
Buffalo: Common throughout parks. Large herds in Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Impressive and potentially dangerous.
Predators
Cheetahs: Best seen in Serengeti's open plains. Fast and focused hunters. Often seen during daylight hours.
Spotted hyenas: Abundant in Ngorongoro and Serengeti. Highly social and successful hunters. Often seen at kills or resting during day.
Wild dogs: Rare but present in Selous and Ruaha. Endangered and elusive. Seeing them is a special experience.
Herbivores
Wildebeest and zebras: The Great Migration involves over 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebras. Best seen during migration seasons.
Giraffes: Common throughout Tanzania. Masai giraffes are most prevalent. Tarangire offers excellent viewing against baobab trees.
Antelopes: Diverse species including impala, gazelles, eland, kudu, and many others. Each park has unique antelope populations.
Birds
Tanzania has over 1,100 bird species, including many endemics. Lake Manyara is famous for flamingos. Serengeti offers excellent raptor viewing. Forested areas host diverse forest species.
