Tanzania Safari Visa Guide
Everything you need to know about Tanzania visa requirements, e-visa application, and entry procedures for safari travelers.
Overview
Most visitors to Tanzania require a visa, which can be obtained either in advance through the e-visa system or on arrival at major airports and border crossings. The process is straightforward, but understanding your options helps ensure smooth entry.

Visa Options
E-Visa (Recommended): Apply online before travel. Process takes 2-10 business days. Receive approval electronically, present at entry. Avoids queues and ensures entry.
Visa on Arrival: Available at major airports (Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar) and some border crossings. Bring passport photos and US dollars cash. Can involve queues during peak periods.
Embassy Visa: Apply at Tanzanian embassy before travel. Recommended for extended stays or special visa types (work, volunteer, etc.).
Visa Costs
Standard Tourist Visa: $50 USD for most nationalities. Valid for 90 days, single entry.
US Citizens: $100 USD for multiple-entry visa valid for one year.
East African Tourist Visa: $100 USD for multiple entries to Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. Valid for 90 days. Ideal for multi-country itineraries.
Visa fees must be paid in US dollars cash for visa on arrival. E-visa payments are made online during application.
Requirements
Passport: Valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date, with at least one blank page.
Photos: Two passport-sized photos (for visa on arrival).
Yellow Fever Certificate: Required if arriving from or transiting through Yellow Fever endemic countries.
Return Ticket: Proof of onward travel may be requested.
Sufficient Funds: Evidence of means to support your stay may be requested.
E-Visa Application Process
1. Visit the official Tanzania e-visa website
2. Create account and complete application form
3. Upload passport photo and scan of passport bio page
4. Pay visa fee online (credit card)
5. Receive approval email (2-10 business days)
6. Print approval and present at entry
