Mobile tented camp in Serengeti

Accommodation guide

Serengeti Mobile Camps β€” Following the Migration

Luxury that moves. These camps pack up and relocate to stay where the wildlife is, season after season.

How Mobile Camps Work

Mobile camps are semi-permanent tented camps that relocate 2-4 times per year to follow the Great Migration. In January-March, they are in the southern Serengeti for calving season. In June, they move to the Western Corridor. In July-October, they are in the north for river crossings. In November-December, they return south.

The camps are set up before your arrival: spacious canvas tents with real beds, en-suite bathrooms with hot bucket showers, flush toilets, and full dining facilities. When you leave, they are dismantled and moved to the next location.

Why Choose a Mobile Camp?

  • Location, location, location β€” You sleep where the action is
  • No vehicle crowds β€” Mobile camps are in areas with fewer other lodges
  • Intimate β€” 8-16 guests maximum
  • Authentic β€” Canvas walls, sounds of the bush, starlit skies
  • Value β€” Often cheaper than permanent lodges in the same areas

The Best Mobile Camps

  • Serengeti Safari Camp (Nomad) β€” 6 tents, exceptional guiding, always in the right place. The gold standard.
  • Sayari Camp (Asilia) β€” Luxury mobile camp that moves between north and south. Stunning design.
  • Lemala Mobile Camps β€” Multiple camps (Ndutu, Ewanjan, Kuria Hills, Mara) that cover the ecosystem.
  • Ubuntu Migration Camp β€” Asilia's smaller mobile offering. Intimate and well-priced.
  • Serengeti Under Canvas (&Beyond) β€” Ultra-luxury mobile with butler service and private vehicles.

What to Expect
