Yellow Fever

Vaccination requirements and certificate information for Tanzania.

Do You Need Yellow Fever Vaccination?

Required if: Arriving from or transiting through a yellow fever endemic country for more than 12 hours.

Recommended for: All travelers visiting Tanzania, even if not required.

Endemic countries include: Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, DRC, Nigeria, and others in tropical Africa/South America.

Valid Certificate

  • • Must be administered at least 10 days before travel
  • • Certificate valid for life (since 2016)
  • • Must show at immigration if arriving from endemic area
  • • Keep certificate with passport

Without Certificate

  • • May be denied entry if arriving from endemic country
  • • Possible vaccination at airport (costs $50+)
  • • Quarantine possible in some cases
  • • Plan ahead to avoid complications

Where to get vaccinated: Visit a travel clinic 4-6 weeks before departure. Many countries require appointments for yellow fever vaccination.
