January - February

January and February are excellent months for safari, particularly in the southern Serengeti where the calving seasonis in full swing. Over 500,000 wildebeest give birth during this period, attracting predators and creating incredible wildlife viewing opportunities.

Weather is warm and mostly dry, though occasional short rains occur. This is a great time for birdwatching as migratory species are present. Prices are moderate, lower than peak season but higher than the rainy season.

March - April

March marks the beginning of the long rains, continuing through April. This is the quietest period for tourism, offering excellent value and the chance to have parks largely to yourself. The migration herds move northwest toward the Grumeti and Western Corridor.

Roads can be challenging in some areas, but mornings are often clear. Lodges offer their best rates of the year. This is ideal for budget-conscious travelers who don't mind some rain and want a more exclusive experience.

May - June

May sees the end of the long rains, with landscapes lush and green. June marks the beginning of the dry season and the start of peak tourism. The migration reaches the Grumeti River, with dramatic river crossings possible.

This is a transition period offering excellent value before peak July-August prices. Weather improves daily, and wildlife viewing becomes outstanding as animals congregate around water sources.

July - August

July and August are peak safari season — the best time for Mara River crossingsin the northern Serengeti. Weather is cool and dry, wildlife viewing is exceptional, and the migration is at its most dramatic.

This is the most expensive and busiest time. Popular areas like Ngorongoro Crater can feel crowded. Book 6-9 months in advance for this period. The experience is world-class despite the crowds.

September - October

September and October continue the excellent dry season conditions. The migration herds are in the northern Serengeti and Masai Mara. Weather remains ideal, and wildlife viewing is outstanding throughout.

Crowds thin slightly compared to July-August, but prices remain high. This is an excellent time for combining safari with Zanzibar beach timeas the weather is perfect for both.

November - December

November brings the short rains, typically brief afternoon showers. The migration herds begin moving south back toward the Ndutu area. December sees the arrival of migratory birds from Europe and Asia.

This is a good value period with lower prices than peak season. Weather is generally good, with rains usually not disrupting safari activities. The festive December period books early despite being green season.
